Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Friendfeed, Digg, Del.ici.ous, Youtube, Linked in

These, among many hundreds of others are examples of social media networks.

Guess what? They are here to stay and are becoming more and more crucial every single day.
There are a many factors that are making them as popular as they have become. Here are a few:

  • It doesn’t take a marketing firm to produce fantastic business marketing results with social media. Believe it or not, the best social media marketing ‘expert’ could be the teenager whose already living in your home or maybe your next door neighbour’s kid.
  • Another key point is it’s free. Your only investment is time.
  • Given the nature of the social aspect to social marketing there is extremely high visibility.
  • Lot’s of possibility for demographic targetting. Making sure that your plug or your ad is displayed to your target market.
  • And best of all, they are really easy to use and set up.

The question that your probably asking yourself is:

Why do I need this for my business? Facebook is for kids isn’t it?

The simple answer is that it is an essential part of a companies Web Presence. Their online portfolio of sorts. They serve as advertisement mechanisms and a good source of visibility for your company on the net. They are a fantastic way to reach out to your customers and get some news or announcements across to them and they also serve as a great way to bring traffic towards your site.

How do I start?

Once again, it’s very simple. Just click on the following few links and create yourself accounts on each and every site. Once the accounts are created, start building your profiles and then some fan pages, add a few connections / friends. Thats basically all it takes. Since it’s very heavily community driven, the sites will almost build themselves once you give them the initial push in the right direction with the discussions and comments that people will start and participate in.
